236 - Preening Idiots

We do not see the world as it truly is. We ignore the dilemma of our existence. We are like preening idiots inside a mirrored casket. As we build upon our illusions, the box gets smaller. Soon it develops spikes -- the spears of our own egotism -- only we are so self-absorbed that we do not notice the points.

Ooh, this hits too close to home!

I know that most of my issues -- just like most of your issues -- are self-created. I like things to go certain ways -- ways that are comfortable and/or beneficial to me. So I try to bend, twist, and manipulate the world into the shapes I desire.

Yet, while I'm trying to cast the dye to a color of my liking, I fret and worry because I never know whether or not my efforts will prove successful. When I do find success, I worry that it may slip away at any moment. When I don't find success, I get angry because I didn't get what I wanted how I wanted it.

Either way, I create my own "mirrored casket" and I pierce my skin with my own projectiles. It's only when I am wounded and bleeding that I notice.

When will we learn to keep the arrows in the quiver?

  2. I should think it hits too close to home to anyone who's honest with themselves. ;)
