Wen Tzu - Verse 115, Part IV

from Verse One Hundred Fifteen
Bruited about far and wide, words are troublesome. The tongue is where it starts; once you have spoken out inappropriately, a team of horses cannot overtake your words.
~ Wen-tzu: Understanding the Mysteries ~
Language is one of those aspects that has enriched humanity. It allows us to share complex hopes, dreams and ideas. It allows us to learn things on a multitude of levels. But for all the benefits we have gained from language, I think that there's no question that the vast majority of conflict arises from it.

I would guess that every war ever fought between nations and states was started because of words. In fact, to take it a step further, the vast majority of conflict we each encounter in our daily lives is caused by words.

Words and concepts take on different meanings for different people. Sometimes we're faulted for what we say. Other times we are faulted for what we don't say. When we become angry or frustrated, it is words that we first use to wound others. While we may wound them in other ways as well, words tend to be the catalyst.
