Wen Tzu - Verse 78

from Verse Seventy-Eight
Holding to unity is seeing the small...
~ Wen-tzu: Understanding the Mysteries ~
This is the first time in this series I've featured a passage that is merely one clause, not even an entire sentence. I've done so because I really feel these seven words capture the essence of the Taoist perspective very well.

We often hear folks tell us that we need to concentrate on the big picture, yet it is the attention to detail -- the small things -- that brings us success and fulfillment. Sometimes the big picture can be a bit frightening and so it scares us from the path. At other times, the big picture can be a bit exciting and so we giddily careen off the path. The method to avoid either scenario is to focus on each step along the way.

Little bites are easier to swallow than big ones.

This post is part of a series. For an introduction, go here.
