Who would have thunk it? Gay marriage is now legal in Iowa after a unanimous decision by the State Supreme Court! In addition, the Vermont House overwhelmingly passed a bill that would allow same-sex marriages. It seems slowly but surely the tide is starting to change.
I'm not suggesting that same-sex opponents haven't notched some recent wins too. I'm also not suggesting they will give up the fight easily, but, I think they know in their heart of hearts that, in time, they will come out on the short end of the stick. Within another generation or two, same-sex marriage will no longer be an issue.
Over the last few years, poll data must have same-sex opponents quivering in their boots. While the older generations continue to be against the concept of gay marriage, the younger folks are exhibiting a greater amount of acceptance. As the older folks die off, chances are that overall public opinion is going to swing the other way and, for the "it's a mortal sin" crowd, they will soon become a frustrated minority.
So, here's for saluting the Iowa Supreme Court! Job well done!!
