The saying goes, "The fish should not be taken from the deep pool; the sharp weapons of the state should not be shown to men." The sage is the sharp weapon of the world, and therefore he should not be where the world can see him.

As a general rule, if somebody tells you that they regularly sit with God or they have uncovered the secret to enlightenment, run as fast you can in the other direction! If either of these things was true, they wouldn't go around announcing it. They would lead by example and allow you to draw your own conclusions.
