Tao Bible - Isaiah 45:5

I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me

Therefore the sage works without recognition.
He achieves what has to be done without dwelling on it.
He does not try to show his knowledge.

Here we have yet another example of God's vanity. He constantly has this insatiable desire to thump his chest, so to speak. It's not enough that he is lord of all, but he has to announce it and rub people's faces in it.

Vanity springs from the ego. It comes from our desire to prove that we are more worthy or important than others. Neither Tao nor the sages feel the need to promote themselves. They do what needs to be done and then move on.
