Weather Log: April 2011

Compared to the deadly storms in the South this past week, the weather in South Bend for April was ho-hum. As I've mentioned before, this post most likely will interest no one other than myself, but this seems like as good a place as any other to note my monthly statistics and observations. :-)

For the 7th consecutive month of the current water year, we recorded above average rainfall. Total precipitation for April was 12.93". This is more than twice the monthly average of 6.31".

As it now stands at the end of the 7th month of this water year, we have received a whopping 116.99" which is 46.39" ABOVE normal. If we were to receive no more measurable rainfall between today and September 30 -- fat chance of that happening -- we would still end the water year 33.35" above normal.

At the rate we're going, we may well set a record for precipitation totals.

On the temperature side, the vast majority of days came in with daily highs of 5 - 10 degrees below normal. There were only 2 days with highs that topped 60 degrees -- though the forecast for this first day of May is for sunny skies and the mid 60s. Even a rain dog like me is looking forward to it!!!
