The Simple Way, Part 67

The Simple Way
The Life & Teachings of Zhouzi
by Scott Bradley

While Zhouzi was teaching, an ancient and travel-worn sage entered the hall. Immediately, the master flew from his seat, prostrated himself and exclaimed, “My Teacher!” Smiling broadly, the sage bid Zhouzi rise and take his seat, but though he rose, he would not take the seat. Nor would the sage take it though Zhouzi entreated him to do so. Thus, two cushions were provided and together they sat before the seat in silent communication.

For only two days did the Master’s teacher remain among them and only once did he yield to Zhouzi’s entreaties to teach them. And then, he only studied their faces and declared, “All is well!”
