Bit by Bit - Chapter 24, Part 8

One of the "new" televised "sports" is poker. It seems like every tournament these days is won by a different individual. The way the commentators tell it, the new champion will be someone to be reckoned with in the "sport" in the days to come. And yet, many are never heard from again!

Like anything in life, I'm sure there is some skill to poker, but a lot of it is random luck. You could be a great strategist, but if the cards don't show you some random favor, you are going to lose more than you win. Consequently, I think some of these one-time champions just happened to have a "lucky" tournament. They were "masters" for a day or a week.
