The End of the Line

Tonight, while tootling around the blogosphere, I came upon one of those sites that was warning anyone who stopped by that we are in the end days. Of course, the writer was pompously telling all that he or she (I wasn't able to discern which -- NOT that it matters) had figured out the exact day and time the world would cease to be and the kingdom of heaven would be ushered in with great fanfare.

The whole post was wildly hysterical. I laughed so hard I almost fell out of my chair. However, I was cognizant of the fact that there are millions of people around the world who willing slurp up this dribble. All I can say is that I feel sorry for them.

Every generation has these kooks. I bet that, since the beginning of human civilization, at least a few people of EVERY GENERATION has believed that their generation will be the last. Thus far, every single one of them has been wrong!! But that certainly doesn't stop more kooks and hucksters from making these same kinds of worn out predictions AND more naive people from believing their tripe.

What cracks me up the most is that the end of the world as we know it happens every single moment of every single day. Every sensation, experience, thought and dream changes our perception of the world and our place in it. So, in every millisecond, we're encountering a new reality.

And there's another way we face the end of the world as we know it -- we all eventually die. The very moment we're born, we start the long (or short) journey toward death. Consequently, in a manner of speaking, every life is lived during the end days.

While the balance of the message of these end days predictors is farcical to the max, there is one kernel of truth embedded in their screeching. Since each person's end of days is on the horizon, we should not be wasting the few days we have left.

Never take any moment for granted because, before you know it, all your moments will be distant history.

  1. i die today- i die this hour- i die this millisecond. at the time of death, i am reborn as a new person, capable of consistency with my former self, but never exactly the same.
